PARIS, France (Reuters) - Farmers blocked one of France's main motorways liking Paris with the northern city of Lille, the Benelux and Britain on Friday, causing kilometres of traffic jams, the first major traffic disruption caused by the protest movement in the French capital. The roadblock on the A1 north of Paris lead to traffic jams of around 4 km (2.5 miles) in the morning, according to the transport ministry's online service Bison Fute. French media reported farmers had also set up first roadblocks on traffic axes in the Essonne department south of Paris in the early morning hours, while most protests were expected to start in the early afternoon. The government said it would announce first immediate measures aimed at taming the farmer outrage later on Friday with Prime Minister Gabriel Attal expected to speak in the afternoon. So far, the government has not specified when and where Attal is due to speak or what measures could be announced.

The logo of Atos is seen on a company building in Nantes, France, March 11, 2022. It is also in advanced negotiations with Kretinsky's EP Equity Investment (EPEI) vehicle to "modify and simplify" some terms of its proposed 2 billion euro ($2.11 billion) sale of Tech Foundations, the group said. AlphaValue analyst Helene Coumes attributed the drop to "the endless uncertainty on the deal on Tech Foundations, the financing issues and how the change of some terms of the agreement will be favorable for the minority shareholders". The Tech Foundations deal would also see Kretinsky take a 7.5% stake in the group's cybersecurity unit Eviden, which is what would be left of Atos. REUTERS/Sarah Meyssonnier/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsOct 26 (Reuters) - Europe's biggest hotel group Accor on Thursday raised its core profit target for 2023 for the second time this year, citing positive business momentum in all of its markets after another strong post-pandemic summer. The sector continues to benefit from the leisure travel boom despite inflation and the resurgence of recession fears in Europe. It was also boosted by the Rugby World Cup, particularly in cities where hotel supply is more limited, such as Lille and Nantes, Accor said. The group now expects core earnings (EBITDA) of between 955 million euros and 985 million euros for 2023, up from a previous forecast of between 930 million euros and 970 million euros, which was already upgraded in July. It also raised its forecast for growth in RevPAR in 2023 and now expects it to slightly exceed 20%.

"Get there early to ensure you catch the sunrise" on Enphase Energy , said Seaport Research Partners. Enphase shares have tumbled more than 53% in 2023 amid a difficult year for the residential solar energy market in the U.S. California, which is the largest market for U.S. residential solar installers, also instituted a policy change that reduced a subsidy for solar panel owners for sending excess power into the grid — further impacting demand. However, Curran thinks the U.S. residential market could show an "incipient recovery" by the end of the second quarter next year. "By next June, we believe three positive factors will converge to form a rebound in U.S. home rooftop solar demand," said Curran.

Sodexo, which is benefiting from the cost-of-living crisis as employers look for ways to support staff without hiking wages, announced in April a plan to spin off and list its voucher unit on the stock exchange in 2024, betting on the good performance of the business. Smaller French rival Edenred (EDEN.PA), which joined France's blue-chip index CAC 40 (.FCHI) on Monday, posted in April first-quarter operating revenue growth as employers used its meal tickets and fuel cards to help staff cope with inflation. Pluxee, which employs 5,000 in 31 countries, targets full-year organic revenue growth of close to 20% and an underlying operating profit margin of around 32%. KORTRIJK, Belgium, March 14 (Reuters) - Hospital food would normally rank alongside school lunches on the culinary charts but a hospital in western Belgium has broken the stereotype after winning approval from a prestigious French restaurant guide. AZ Groeninge in the city of Kortrijk becomes the first hospital in the Benelux to be officially recognised by Gault & Millau for the quality of the food it serves to its patients. The hospital brought in Gault & Millau experts to inspect their food and offer advice for improvement, notably for their fish dishes, their sauces and their potato servings. The guide subsequently determined that the hospital's food was of a high standard, and Declerck said he would be happy to serve up some of its dishes in his own home. The meals prepared for patients will not actually feature in the annual restaurant guide but have been officially certified by Gault & Millau for 2023.
Europe's car repairers call for competition rules rewrite

LONDON, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Europe's car repair and spare parts industry is calling for a rewrite of EU competition rules, arguing they allow carmakers and franchise dealers to disadvantage independent operators. The European Commission has recommended extending 2010's Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation (MVBER) for five years when it expires in 2023, with some supplementary guidelines. Proponents of a rewrite say automakers restrict access to vehicle data, which can make repairs more expensive, while also dictating how repairs should be undertaken and with which parts. "However, the evaluation revealed that an update was necessary to reflect the importance that access to vehicle-generated data is likely to have as a factor of competition." "If the Commission has decided not to change the rules, we assume that the complaints made by the independent aftermarket were not sufficiently substantiated," a spokeswoman said.
Following a decline between January and April, the group said the occupancy rate in its French retirement homes reached an average of 85.4% in the third quarter. This was an increase of 0.9 percentage points from the prior quarter, but down around 1.5 points on the year. In Orpea's largest region covering France, Benelux, Britain and Ireland, quarterly revenue increased by 1.6% organically. Meanwhile, Central Europe saw 5.3% organic revenue growth, Eastern Europe grew by 10.1%, and Orpea's smallest Iberia and Latin America region posted 17.7% growth. The first meeting with Orpea's unsecured debt holders will be held on Nov. 15, when the company will also present its transformation plan.
Oct 25 (Reuters) - French industrial gases company Air Liquide (AIRP.PA) on Tuesday beat analyst expectations for third-quarter sales, despite flagging slowing demand in Europe from customers in its Large Industries unit. The group's shares were up 4.2% by 0832 GMT, as JPMorgan in a note called the results "reassuring". Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com RegisterAll three major segments recorded growth despite a "complex" macroeconomic environment of surging energy prices, the group said. The company said revenue in Europe contracted by 0.2%, largely due to its Large Industries segment where revenue dropped by 27.5%, in a context of surging energy prices. Air Liquide said Large Industries volumes dropped 6%, "impacted by a slowing demand from Steel and Chemical customers, notably in Germany and Benelux."
Factbox: How is Germany replacing Russian gas?

FRANKFURT, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Germany, Europe's biggest economy and historically a major importer of Russian gas, is scrambling to secure alternative supplies following a plunge in flows from Russia since its invasion of Ukraine. Germany is sourcing more gas from Benelux countries, Norway, and France. IMPORTERS' STRATEGIESStricken importer Uniper (UN01.DE) has said it is sourcing Norwegian, Dutch and Azeri gas via pipelines and using its global role as a trader of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to procure more of the super-cooled gas into north western Europe. LNG TERMINALSIn the absence of LNG reception terminals, Germany is building floating LNG terminals (FSRUs), of which two will be ready at the turn of the year, in Brunsbuettel and Wilhelmshaven. In the long term, fixed onshore terminals will be built with a view to receiving gas, carbon-free hydrogen, and ammonia.
